Description

Apoquel® (oclacitinib) 16mg tablets are a prescription medication formulated to control pruritus associated with allergic dermatitis and manage atopic dermatitis in dogs aged 12 months and older. Unlike traditional steroids or antihistamines, Apoquel targets specific cytokines involved in the itch and inflammatory pathways, providing targeted relief. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Apoquel begins to alleviate itching within 4 hours, with complete control achieved within 24 hours. The recommended dosing regimen involves administering 0.4 to 0.6 mg/kg orally twice daily for up to 14 days, followed by once-daily maintenance dosing. Apoquel can be given with or without food. Common side effects may include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and lethargy. Due to its immunomodulatory effects, Apoquel should not be used in dogs with serious infections or those under 12 months of age. Regular veterinary monitoring is advised to ensure safety and efficacy during treatment.
