Vetprofen (Carprofen) 75mg Caplets are veterinary-prescribed NSAIDs designed to manage pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and postoperative recovery in dogs. Osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease, leads to stiffness, discomfort, and reduced mobility. Vetprofen works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), which play key roles in the inflammatory process. The typical dosage is 2 mg per pound (4.4 mg/kg) of body weight, administered once daily or divided into two doses of 1 mg per pound (2.2 mg/kg) twice daily. For postoperative pain, administer approximately two hours before the procedure. Regular veterinary consultations are essential to monitor the dog's response and adjust the dosage as needed. Potential side effects include gastrointestinal issues, changes in appetite, and lethargy. Immediate veterinary attention is recommended if any adverse reactions are observed.
